No other institution in the world can boast of a better academic structure. This was created and led by legends like Profs Wahi, AikaT, KS Chugh andBKS. Even as the director he never left his seat empty at 8 am at LT1. He often looked behind in dismay to find the hall near empty. We all scrambled to reach when lights were out and his attention fixed at the podium.
His students would remember that in his clinical rounds he used to be fixated on proper history. He would catch us dumbfounded often if we didn’t take a proper socioeconomic history. every day of our practising lives we realise how important that part of the education was.
He allowed me to go to Vellore for training in Hematology as soon as I completed my residency. He took me back with open arms when I came back. Appointed me as AP in Clinical Hematology. He wanted me to stay back when I moved abroad. Awe and Reverence is how I looked upto him. Doctors come and go but Teachers stay. BKS and his teaching will stay with us forever. It’s up to us whether we can keep his legacy alive.
